Braces

While the process of getting braces might seem rather straightforward (no pun intended!), we also know that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to orthodontic treatment. A lot has changed over the years when it comes to the type of braces offered. Here at Kokomo Smile Creations, we also recognize that it’s not just kids that are getting braces. In fact, more and more of our orthodontic patients are teens and adults. It’s never too late to get that perfect smile, and our dental team is here to make that possible.

First, do you actually need braces?
The first part of the orthodontic process is to figure out if you even need braces. It’s important to understand why braces are used and what problems they can correct to determine if you, your child or your teen could benefit. After all, braces aren’t just to achieve perfect, straight smiles. Braces can also be used to improve jaw problems, bad bites, chewing and speech issues and even difficulty breathing.

Aren’t all braces the same?
While all braces have the same goal in mind—to straighten teeth and correct common dental problems—they aren’t all the same. When you come into our office for an evaluation, we will be able to determine which type of braces is right for you based on the problems you are dealing with, your lifestyle, age and other factors. We offer everything from traditional metal braces, which can be great for correcting nearly all dental problems (even more severe or complicated cases), to discreet and nearly invisible orthodontic systems.

Can I age out of getting braces?
Absolutely not! Gone are the days of thinking that braces are only a rite of passage for kids. In fact, the American Association of Orthodontists has found that about one in five orthodontic patients these days are adults. It can be comforting to know that it’s never too late to get the smile you want.

Of course, getting a consultation for your child early on in their lives can also be just as beneficial. Early orthodontic evaluations can prevent further issues for your child down the road, so most children will benefit from consulting an orthodontist at around 7-8 years old (once their permanent teeth come in).
